Security and data handling
Last updated: October 2026
BabelBell is built for essential services, so security and clear data handling are part of the design, not an afterthought. This page sets out our approach plainly. It describes what we do, and it is careful not to claim accreditations we do not yet hold.
How we handle data
- UK data handling. The service runs on infrastructure we operate, and we keep call data in the United Kingdom.
- Encryption in transit. Traffic to this website and between our own systems is encrypted.
- Access control. Access to systems and data is limited to the people who need it to run the service.
- Auditability. Calls can be logged and recorded where the buyer requires it, so there is a record to review.
- Data minimisation. We hold what is needed to run and bill the service, and no more.
Human escalation
BabelBell is strongest for general enquiries, admin, bookings and customer service. For clinical, legal or safeguarding conversations we support escalation to a professional human interpreter, so an organisation can set a policy for when a human is required. We say plainly that AI interpreting does not carry the professional accountability of a qualified human interpreter, and we design the service around that.
Certifications: an honest position
We want buyers to be able to trust what we say, so we are direct about this. BabelBell does not currently hold ISO 27001, the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit, or Cyber Essentials. The points above are capability statements about how the service is built and run, not claims of any of those certifications. We are happy to discuss a certification and assurance roadmap as part of a deployment, and to complete a buyer's own security questionnaire.
Reporting a concern
If you believe you have found a security issue, please email privacy@weirdwisdom.co.uk with the detail and we will look into it promptly.
